The decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (1F) is an unexplored field. Although the investigations for inside primary containment vessel (PCV) by robots have been underway by IRID, actual situation inside the PCV and the characteristics of fuel debris have not been sufficiently clarified yet. Under such circumstances, the computational simulation with reliable data is an effective means for solving many problems for the 1F decommissioning. Here, as application examples using nuclear data such as JENDL-4.0, we will introduce some researches and developments on (1) prediction of dose rate distribution in PCV, (2) remotely operated vehicle (ROV) system to explore submerged fuel debris in PCV, (3) non-destructive assay of nuclear fuel materials in a fuel debris canister.

Times Cited Count:66 Percentile:98.06(Physics, Nuclear)The CIELO collaboration has studied neutron cross sections on nuclides that significantly impact criticality in nuclear facilities - U, U, Pu, Fe, O and H - with the aim of improving the accuracy of the data and resolving previous discrepancies in our understanding. This multi-laboratory pilot project, coordinated via the OECD/NEA Working Party on Evaluation Cooperation (WPEC) Subgroup 40 with support also from the IAEA, has motivated experimental and theoretical work and led to suites of new evaluated libraries that accurately reflect measured data and also perform well in integral simulations of criticality. This report summarizes our results and outlines plans for the next phase of this collaboration.

The under prediction of k depending on U enrichment in low enriched uranium fueled systems was studied in this report. Benchmark testing was carried out with several evaluated nuclear data files, including the new uranium evaluations from preliminary ENDF/B-VII and CENDL-3.1. Another problem reviewed here was k underestimation vs. temperature increase, which was observed in the slightly enriched system with recent JENDL and ENDF/B uranium evaluations. Through the substitute analysis of nuclear data of U and U, we propose a new evaluation of U data to solve both of the problems. The new evaluation was tested for various uranium fueled systems including low or highly enriched metal and solution benchmarks in the ICSBEP handbook. As a result, it was found that the combination of the new evaluation of U and the U data from the preliminary ENDF/B-VII gives quite good results for most of benchmark problems.

In recent years, intermediate energy nuclear data are required for various applications such as accelerator-driven systems for waste transmutation, spallation neutron sources, advanced cancer therapies, estimation of single event up set rate and dose on astronauts. For these requirements, many groups in the world continue intermediate energy nuclear data evaluation. The early stage of this evaluation was initiated in USA. For example, Pearlstein at Brookhaven National Laboratory produced systematics, modified ALICE code and evaluated proton and neutron nuclear data in late 1980s. At Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, similar data developed for a medical application. Following them, many countries, such as Europe, Japan, Russia, China, Korea, started the preparation of nuclear data in this energy region. Overview of evaluation methods, results of evaluations are presented in comparison between experimental data and evaluated files, mainly JENDL High Energy File, as well as results from benchmark calculations.

Nuclear data for photonuclear reactions are required in the field of shielding design of high-energy electron accelerators and high-energy -ray therapy. The JENDL Photonuclear Data File was prepared by a working group on nuclear data evaluations for photonuclear reactions in Japanese Nuclear Data Committee. From a survey of many literatures, it is difficult to construct the photonuclear data file by using only measured data, since there are not sufficient experimental data. We were therefore evaluating with theoretical calculations based on statistical nuclear reaction models. The photonuclear cross sections that are to be contained in the file are as follows: photoabsorption cross sections, yield cross sections and DDX for neutrons, protons, deuterons, tritons, He-particles and alpha-particles, and isotope production cross sections. For the actinide nuclides, photofission cross sections are also included. The maximum energy of incident photons is 140 MeV and stored are the photonuclear data for 68 nuclides from H to Np.

Entirely new evaluations for all the Ge isotopes, from thermal energy to 20 MeV, has been performed with focus on photon production. In the resonance region, parameters were improved considerably compared to earlier evaluations. In the fast region, code EMPIRE-2.19 was used. Validation was done against photon data on Fe and Nb. Isotopic evaluations for Ge were summed up and compared with available measurements on natural Ge. Various quantities related to photon production, showing strong dependence on neutron incident energy, are discussed.

Evaluations of neutron nuclear data for medium-heavy nuclides were performed for JENDL-3.3. The present work was undertaken to remove the drawbacks of the previous library JENDL-3.2. Recent measurements and nuclear model calculations were taken into account to improve the accuracy of the evaluated data. The data on natural elements were not produced in order to solve a problem of the inconsistency between elemental and isotopic data except for carbon and vanadium in JENDL-3.3.

The evaluated nuclear data for I and Nd stored in JENDL-3.3 were investigated comparing with other evaluated data and experimental data. New experimental data were available especially for the capture cross sections of both nuclides. The parameters used in theoretical calculations were modified so as to reproduce those experimental data. The statistical model calculation was performed using the revised parameters. The resonance parameters were also revised so that the cross sections measured in the thermal energy region were reproduced well. The present results were compiled in the ENDF-6 format.
